In a global milestone, Hospital Luis Tisné performed the first robotic surgery that combines AR and 3D visualization, revolutionizing precision and effectiveness in the operating field.
Led by Dr. Alberto Rodríguez Navarro, an expert in minimally invasive surgery, this achievement included gallbladder, gynecological and digestive surgeries, all carried out with the help of the MARS platform, which provides the surgeon with an enhanced and controlled surgical view. The integration of AR and 3D technology offers superior depth perception, essential for streamlining and making interventions safer.
For this innovation, AR glasses and a 3D camera were used alongside the MARS surgical robot, which enhances the surgeon's capability by minimizing incisions, promoting faster recovery and less invasive intervention for the patient. The technology, patented by Levita Magnetics and FDA-approved, uses the Dynamic Magnetic Positioning™ system, allowing precise handling of surgical instruments through magnets.
Dr. Rodríguez Navarro foresees that in the future this technology will allow the projection of a virtual diagnostic panel in real time, facilitating immediate access to critical information such as vital signs and patient history. Additionally, the Levita Magnetics team is working on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to perform real-time surgical data analysis, which promises to improve decision-making during operations.
