In the previous example, you could say "When you arrived late to the meeting, I felt frustrated and worried." By sharing your feelings, you help others better understand your perspective.

3. Recognition of Needs

Behind every feeling there is an unmet need. The third step in NVC is to identify and communicate these needs. This could sound like "I felt frustrated and worried because I need the planned time for our meetings to be respected." By focusing on needs, you avoid blaming others and promote deeper mutual understanding.

4. Formulation of Requests

Finally, NVC involves making clear and concrete requests to improve the situation. These requests should be specific and achievable, such as "Could you let me know in advance if you are going to be late in the future?" Well-formulated requests facilitate cooperation and allow finding solutions that satisfy the needs of all involved.

Practical Application in Teams and Companies

Non-Violent Communication is not just a theoretical tool; it is extremely practical and applicable in the organizational environment. Here are some strategies to implement it in your company:

  • Weekly NVC Meetings: Dedicate time in team meetings to practice NVC, sharing experiences and reflecting on how to improve communication.
  • Constructive Feedback: Use the NVC model to give and receive feedback. This helps ensure that feedback is received in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Conflict Resolution: Apply NVC in mediation and conflict resolution sessions. This ensures that all parties feel heard and that their needs are considered.
