The world of management and leadership is flooded with terms and techniques, but there is a tool as old as humanity itself: the art of storytelling. But can a story from two thousand years ago really influence how we lead today? The answer is a resounding yes.
Let us put things in context with a lesson from the annals of Chinese history. During the period of the Three Kingdoms, there was a man, Zhuge Liang, who, although he was not a king or emperor, was an unstoppable force thanks to his intelligence and strategic skills. His mastery was such that even in extremely unfavorable situations, he found a brilliant way out.

On one occasion, his army urgently needed 100,000 arrows to face the enemy. However, he only had three days to obtain them. Instead of surrendering to the pressure, Zhuge Liang devised a creative solution. He used boats filled with straw scarecrows and, taking advantage of the fog, tricked the enemy army into shooting arrows at the scarecrows. At the end of his clever operation, he returned with the 100,000 arrows he needed without spilling a single drop of blood.
This tale is not simply a feat of an ancient general, it is a testament to the power of ingenuity and how a good narrative can inspire and teach. And this is where the concept of Storyleading comes into play.
Storytelling is not simply for entertainment. It is a powerful tool that can inspire, motivate and guide people toward a common goal. A good leader does not just give orders; a good leader shares visions, instills values and sets examples through stories that endure over time.
If you're thinking: "That's fine, but I'm a manager, not an ancient Chinese general", the reality is that you don't need to be Zhuge Liang to harness the power of storytelling in your leadership. Every challenge you face, every success you celebrate and every lesson you learn can become a powerful narrative to guide and inspire your team.
