This same question applies to any person you value, admire, or who for any reason is in a position to contribute something to you. How can we handle those first minutes of attention? How can we achieve a collaboration of any kind in 10 minutes or less?
That is the question that sales professionals, entrepreneurs seeking investment capital, or business owners seeking new clients ask themselves every day. How can I take advantage of the few minutes or seconds I have to captivate that person who has the potential to drive my idea or transform my business?
A few months ago I asked the same question on my LinkedIn profile, and some of the answers were really interesting.

Let me share my perspective on this with you.
Whether one day you run into Elon Musk in an elevator and only have 5 minutes to talk to him, or whether you have to make a sales visit and have very little time in your prospect or stakeholder's schedule, the first thing is to accept that 5 or 10 minutes is not enough time to create a meaningful conversation that leads to a powerful relationship.
So the best way to make the most of those 5 or 10 minutes is by earning more time. And that is the first job of the elevator pitch.
The elevator pitch is not meant to give all the details or all the sales arguments; it is a space that can be much better used if it is used to instigate the curiosity of your prospect or interlocutor to have a longer conversation that can be more beneficial for both.
